Wine Cooler Refrigerators With Dual Temperature Zones
By Barry J Smallhorn
When you’re looking over the available wine cooler refrigerators,
there are certain things you need to make sure are there from
the start, if you’re going to store your wine under the very best
conditions.
It’s not enough that you can just stick your wine in and set
a temperature. Certain other design elements will have just as
much effect on the wine as the temperature does, and in fact,
if you don’t pay attention to them, you could find your wine being
ruined.
So you need to pay heed to all factors in the design if you’re
going to buy the best wine bottle refrigerator you possibly can.
Dual Temperature Zones For Red And White Wines
You should keep two categories in mind as you look at wine refrigerators:
the air inside and the construction of the fridge. The ideal wine
refrigerators will have dual temperature zones, so you can keep
white wines in a cooler zone than the reds, as generally recommended.
You also want to check what the air circulation is like throughout
the unit, making sure it’s good so that there will be less danger
of mold or mildew.
Sometimes vibrations that disturb the sediments in the bottles
are of much concern in these wine cooler refrigerators, since
these can upset the internal balance of the wine and even ruin
it.
Eliminating Vibrations With Thermoelectric Wine Refrigerators
Compressor-based refrigerators are especially prone to excess
vibration, so you’d need to find one that keeps the storage compartment
completely isolated from the compartment containing the compressor.
Or you could look for a thermoelectric wine refrigerator, which
would have no moving parts and therefore eliminate vibrations.
But here you might end up sacrificing a degree of cooling efficiency.
LED Lights Stay Cool While Bulb Lights Generate Heat
You may be surprised to learn that light is also an important
issue. If you can find wine cooler refrigerators with LED lighting
inside, then that is the best kind of illumination you can have.
For one thing, all other bulbs generate a certain amount of heat,
while LED lights stay cool. Because household light can degenerate
wine rather quickly, especially white wine in non-tinted bottles,
it’s even better if you search the wine bottle refrigerators for
one without a glass door, or whose glass is tinted to protect
against UV light.
All of these things may sound like an awfully tall order to try
to include in one wine fridge. But if you can find a refrigerator
with all these elements, then your wine will be stored in almost
perfect conditions.

Did You Know?
It can be really nice and quite decorative to have a beautiful
wrought iron rack on your countertop displaying your fabulous
collection of wines. And as long as you are simply displaying
them it works quite well.
But did you know that storing a wine out in the open exposes
it to conditions that can cause the flavors to change and deteriorate?
That is why so many ardent collectors either use wine cellars
or wine refrigerators to keep their collection. Wine cellars can
be a bit expensive to put in so the most logical choice are refrigerators.
