Wine Cooler With Internal Temperature Controls
By Barry J Smallhorn
If you just don’t have the space for a real wine cellar, then
a choice from the available compact wine refrigerators can serve
a similar purpose, at least until you have both the budget and
the room for something more long term.
Think of a wine cooler as a stepping stone to something more
elaborate, as you gradually build up a bit of a wine collection.
Of course, if you think your supply of wine will be expanding,
then you may want to make this wine fridge slightly larger so
you have at least a little room for expansion.
There are a lot of options to choose from in a wine cooler. You
could have your new wine refrigerator built under the counter
into your kitchen cabinetry in the same way you’ve got your dishwasher
set up, or standing as tall as your regular fridge.
A Small Wine Fridge In Your Kitchen
If the wine fridge is fairly small, you might angle it in a corner
on your kitchen counter, especially if it has a glass door and
the wine bottles might provide a decorative element.
There are also compact wine refrigerators you can shelve below
your cabinetry in much the same configuration as many microwaves.
The surfaces can be chosen to match the finish on your other appliances
or to match your kitchen cabinetry and decor.
Different Temperature Zones For Red And White Wines
There are many features you can to look for in a wine cooler,
but one of the most important is different temperature zones for
red and white wines.
If you don’t want to store each of them in a different fridge,
then being able to set the temperature for red wine warmer than
that for white will help you keep both types of wine in the best
conditions.
And if your beverage needs are slightly more eclectic, you can
even chose a wine and beer refrigerator.
Better Internal Temperature And Humidity Controls
Most particularly, you want your wine cooler to be well insulated
and have excellent internal temperature and humidity controls.
The refrigerator needs to be able to manage changes to these conditions
quickly, whether it’s getting some extra light from a kitchen
window during the day, or is set in a corner of a room where the
ambient temperature may fluctuate.
You might still dream of creating an actual cellar for your wine
storage some day. But in the meantime, choosing the right wine
refrigerator may satisfy your needs until both your budget and
your wine collection allow for a more elaborate arrangement.

Did You Know?
Did you know that storing wine on your countertop is a bad idea?
Sure, there are many decorative wine racks you can buy but it
is essentially ruining good wine. Wine needs to be kept at a certain
temperature depending on the variety.
If it gets too hot or too cold it can ruin the taste and you
have wasted your money. Serious wine connoisseurs know that wine
refrigerators are the only way to store and then serve wine at
its proper temperature. There are several types to choose from
and it really all comes down to your budget.
