What Day Is Fathers Day In The US And Around The World?
By Jane Kliperrs
Some holidays are easy. For example, we know that Christmas is
always December 25th, Halloween is always October 31st, Valentine’s
Day is always February 14th, and Independence Day is always the
4th of July. However, many people get nervous wondering what day
is Fathers Day?
It would be terrible for a child to completely forget about the
special day set aside to review their options and express his
or her appreciation for dear old dad, who has sacrificed so much!
What day does Father’s Day fall on in the United States? Here
in America, we celebrate the third Sunday of June each year. There
are many thoughts on why a Joint Resolution of Congress proclaimed
this particular Father’s Day date.
Third Weekend In June
Most believe that this day was selected because the first unofficial
celebration took place in Spokane, Washington on June 19th. Sonora
Smart Dodd had originally advocated that the commemoration take
place on her father’s birthday, June 5th, but the church organizers
didn’t have time to make arrangements until the third weekend
of June.
Others surmise the date coincides with the birthday of Harry
C. Meek -- the president of the Chicago Lion’s Club, who traveled
the country talking about the importance of Father’s Day.
Children Completing Chores For Their Father
You may also be wondering what day is Fathers Day in other countries?
There are a number of other nations that chose to commemorate
their father figures in the month of June. Lithuania celebrates
their Father’s Day on the first Sunday of June, which usually
involves the children completing special chores for their father.
Denmark celebrates Father’s Day on June 5th, which is also their
Constitution Day and celebrates their founding fathers as well.
The first celebration of Father’s Day in Austria took place in
1956 and ranks significantly lower in importance than Mother’s
Day, but is commemorated with a religious ceremony and feast,
along with a Father Day card or gift as well. Belgium also celebrates
on this Father’s Day date.
Guatemala has designated June 21st as their celebratory day,
while Nicaragua, Poland and Uganda chose June 21st as their feast
day. Haiti celebrates on the last Sunday of June.
Boys Day Out With Pub And Brewery Tours
People who wonder what day is Fathers Day in Germany may have
to look up their query using a different search term. In Germany,
Father’s Day is called "Vatertag," which has its roots
as a Middle Ages religious procession on Ascension Day.
This religious ceremonial parade became customary until the 1920s,
when a modern twist turned this refined celebration into an alcohol-infused
"boys day out." Pub and brewery tours gained widespread
popularity and many men opted to take camping trip hiking tours
on their date of Father’s Day, where they pull wagons full of
food, wine and beer.
Sometimes you’ll hear this day referred to as "Männerrunde"
(men’s bar tour) or "Sauftag" (boozing day). Zany presents
include paternity tests and alcohol measuring devices.

You may be a bit shocked but more than 101
countries celebrate Father’s Day or some sort of holiday that
celebrate dads all across the world. The countries range from
Pakistan to the United Kingdom.
This is a very good thing because for quite
some time Mother’s Day, or a form of it, has been celebrated.
