Valentines Day Food To Get You In The Mood

By Julianne Newbold

Tell that steak and lobster dinner to step off the plate, or at least to make extra room on it. When it comes to Valentines Day food and romance, nothing’s going to get the job done quite like the aphrodisiacs.

At least, that’s how the story goes. It’s not that you don’t also need the love poems, the soft lighting and so on to set the mood. But many people swear by certain foods, claiming they act to increase sexual desire and enhance performance. So these are what you really need to add to your planned evening.

Take chocolate, for example. It isn’t just an old wives’ tale that this substance serves as an aphrodisiac. As far back as the times of the Aztecs, the mood-lifting qualities of cocoa had been observed and made use of.

Lifting The Mood With Chocolate

In more recent times, medical science has discovered that this substance contains serotonin, which is known to be a mood lifter. So this traditional Valentines Day food does indeed help the partners get into the frame of mind for sexual involvement, inducing feelings of happiness. As an extra bonus, it increases the heart rate, so they’re already partway to where they need to be.

Speaking of heart rate, or at least blood circulation, would you believe that garlic, too, qualifies as a Valentines Day food? One of the properties of garlic is improved blood circulation, one of the prime requirements for sexual performance.

Alcohol Slows Down Your Sex Drive

But if you’d rather avoid the potential complications of garlic breath, then you may be more interested in asparagus or avocado, which both contain Vitamin E.

This vitamin is supposed to stimulate the production of sex hormones, so either of these could qualify as aphrodisiac dinner food. One thing to avoid, however, is too much alcohol, which tends to slow down the sex drive.

King Of The Aphrodisiacs

However, the most famous Valentines Day food, the long-standing king of the aphrodisiacs, remains oysters. Here, too, these delectable goodies gained their reputation for a very good reason.

Apparently, they are high in zinc as well as something called aspartic acids, which increase testosterone levels. So if you’re contemplating a Valentines dinner, want the mood to be right, and hope that the mood lasts far into the night, then consider oysters and a few of the other natural aphrodisiacs, and let the fireworks begin!

What are the kitchen basics I need?
Kitchen basics that every kitchen should have are pots and pans (in a variety of sizes), measuring cups, measuring spoons, mixing bowls and an assortment of kitchen gadgets that make life easier.

One of these gadgets is a can opener. Being forced to saw off the bottom of a can could take a little of the fervor away from cooking. Also consider keeping whisks, spatulas and tongs as part of your cooking basics.

Another item basic that is used often is a drainer/strainer. These can come in the form of bowls or be part of a boiling pan set. It is used to drain spaghetti water from the pasta or can be used for anything similar.
