The Bottled Water Industry Vs Tap Water
By Imogen T Stubbs
Have you ever shelled out a couple of dollars for a bottle of
water? If you have, then you are not alone. Millions of people
purchase bottled water every day because they believe it is safe
water, or rather safer water, than the stuff that comes out of
their taps.
This may not be the truth and the bottled water industry doesn’t
want you to know. Some bottled waters are very pure but there
are others that are probably no better than your tap water. Know
the difference to review your options and understand why people
buy bottled water.
Vitamin Water Is The New Bottled Water Of Choice
Bottled water has become very popular but there is a new wave
sweeping the world. Vitamin water has become the favored choice
among most water drinkers. They believe that bottled water standards
have improved to the point where it is now acceptable to add preservatives,
flavorings and vitamins.
They are willing to shell out two bucks just to have the extra
advantage of getting some safe water with a dose of vitamins and
calcium to kick start their day and ensure proper nutrition. The
bottled water industry is well aware of this and is continuously
introducing new brands.
Recently, it came to light that a bottled water company located
in this country and other places was simply using tap water. This
led to the spark of contention on whether or not bottled water
was the right choice.
Bottles Cause A Landfill Problem
It causes a landfill problem with the sheer amounts of plastic
being thrown away and in reality, it is no better or worse than
the water straight from your tap. People still buy it but at least
they know the facts now.
The bottled water industry is here to stay. People living in
cities do not want to take the chance with their source water.
They also do not want to drink the water found in many different
countries where the water quality is not regulated. Do you blame
them?
The last thing they want is to get dysentery while on vacation
in some foreign country. But give tap water or well water a chance
when you are at home. You will save money and you can always add
in your own flavors. You will know that you are helping the environment.

Did You Know?
Who is in charge of monitoring drinking water?
The Environmental Protection Agency is the
government group that helps maintains the level of your drinking
water through the Safe Drinking Water Act.
The Safe Drinking Water Act helps make
sure that the quality of your water, not how it looks or tastes,
is pure enough for human consumption and is free from any pollutants.
It governs water treatment facilities and bottling plants.
Are there better bottled waters for you versus some others?
Well, that depends on who you ask. Many bottling
companies market their products as pure when in reality they may
be from the same water source that comes from your kitchen sink.
Other companies are now adding flavors
and vitamins to their waters in order to entice more consumers
into choosing their brands over the competition. It really comes
down to personal taste and preference.
