The Bartenders Provide The Best Drinks

By Barry J Smallhorn

As long as there have been bars or taverns in the world, there have been bartenders. While the bartenders have not always been referred to as bartenders, the task has been much the same. A barkeep is not seen as someone who simply serves drinks; they exemplify the public image of the bar they are tending.

They contribute to and reflect the atmosphere of the pub or tavern and can provide an enjoyable and positive experience for the customers. In some bars, the bartender is part of the entertainment; while in others, the barman or female bartender is the entertainment.

Flair Bartenders Put On A Huge Show For The Customers

At some bars, the bartenders are expected to be flair bartenders, by tossing the bottles and glasses in the air and putting on a huge show for the customers. If you have ever seen movies, such as Coyote Ugly or Cocktail, then you probably noticed that they had interesting approaches to keeping their customers happy and entertained. Bartenders with flair do their part to ensuring a steady flow of customers.

Another way that bartenders do this is by simply remembering the drinks that their patrons order. If a bartender can get to know a customer and remember to match the face with their favorite drink, then they will no doubt establish a long time patron.

People like the familiarity that this brings to them; it also makes them feel welcome in the establishment. Bartenders are also normally versed in many mixed drink recipes and can make recommendations to those who are not sure what they want to try.

Bartenders Can Offer Advice When Asked

At some bars and especially on TV and in movies, the bartenders are known as great listeners. While this isn't always true, there are instances where the bartender will offer advice about several different subjects, give information on sports trivia, or offer directions to locations around the city.

In the past, a barkeep was known for not just his bartending services but also his ability to hold quality conversations and "lending an ear" to those needing someone to talk to about personal concerns.

This is mainly because of the difference in the size of bars years ago, as compared with those today. There was once a large existence of small corner bars. These bars not only served drinks and cocktails but had the comfort of familiarity; a place where you could review your options and get away from the problems of your day.

Look At The Friendly Bartender

The next time you visit a bar, try and notice how the bartenders influence the atmosphere of the room. Are they entertaining, pleasant, or just doing their job well? Does the bartender make his customers feel like friends?

Whichever type of bartender you prefer, the flashy, entertaining fellow, or the stodgier, just-pouring-the-drinks guy, it doesn't really matter.

A barkeep who has no flair is still pouring your drinks, yet others, specifically flair bartenders, offer cheery entertainment to go along with that special cocktail.
