Thanksgiving Day Tradition With Your Own Gift Creations

By Imogen T Stubbs

Thanksgiving is traditionally about sharing and giving thanks so why not start your own Thanksgiving Day tradition by creating your own gift.

If you have been invited to the home of a friend or family member this year, giving a gift to the person who will be hosting the festivities is a great way to show them how much you appreciate their efforts. Some of the best offerings are the ones that can be shared at dinner, so why not make something edible?

Food baskets are a great choice and can be created with any budget in mind. You can go with something fairly simple, such as getting a large wooden plate or platter and filling it with several different types of nuts or cheeses.

A Wicker Gift Basket With Dips And Breads

This can be either set out before dinner for people to munch on while waiting for the big Thanksgiving Day feast or perhaps during the football game. Another idea is to get a big wicker basket and fill it with lots of different types of bread, with different dips on the side; you can either purchase dips or for a special touch, and possibly a new family tradition, make your own.

If you are in need of a great idea for a Thanksgiving gift, then you could always opt for some kind of a fruit basket. Consider going really unique and use fruits such as figs, kiwis or papayas.

Oranges And Apples

Even the more traditional fare of apples and oranges can be turned into a Thanksgiving Day tradition by adding something like caramel for dipping the apples, or sticks so that you can make your own caramel apples for desert. For oranges, consider adding either a spiced cider or spiced tea mix, and the oranges can be used as garnish.

Speaking of desert, other Thanksgiving ideas to consider are filling a tray or basket to use for desert after the big Thanksgiving Day feast. You can either fill it with candy that you have hand made, perhaps in shapes representative of Thanksgiving, or use the more traditional Thanksgiving food of pumpkin pies, or something similar.

Wine And Cheese

Many people enjoy having wine and cheese with their desert, which opens up a plethora of options to you, such as creating a wine and cheese basket in lieu of a full desert tray.

Keep in mind that the Thanksgiving gifts do not have to be something that is edible; you can make something from your own garden or by visiting your florist or farmers market and choosing something that will be appreciated just as much.

Creating A Centerpiece With Your Garden Produce

However, if you do have a vegetable or flower garden, then why not consider starting a new Thanksgiving Day tradition by creating something such as a centerpiece to be placed on the dinner table.

If you do not have your own garden, you can still pick out several great items relating to the season and create a cornucopia or a basket that any host would surely appreciate.

Did You Know?

I want my Thanksgiving traditions to be different, how can I do this?
Well, the word "tradition" means that it has been followed in the past. But do not let that deter you. If you want to change your Thanksgiving tradition to something new and exciting, it is up to you to do it.

One way you may start it off is by changing the food that you serve at your dinner or the dish that you bring to a family or friend’s house. People expect the same food year after year but you can add a dish from a different culture to bring an exotic appeal to the buffet line.

You can also change how you celebrate the day. If members of your family or friend’s always seem to work Thanksgiving Day, change your gathering to a different day. For an even novel idea you could try taking your family on a mini vacation as a way to unwind and truly enjoy your day or two off.

Thanksgiving can be anything you want it to be. There are no written laws that say you have to stuff yourself with turkey and then fall asleep on the couch watching the football game.
