Teen Diets Are For Health And Not Beauty
By Julia Taylor-Fernandez
Teen diets are usually requested by young girls who are a little
overweight and want to slim down. They want to look like their
friends who are perfect in their eyes.
But this needs to be looked as a health issue rather than a beauty
issue. For example, is the weight gain due to nutrition or lack
of exercise or both? Then these need to be adjusted with the help
of a fully qualified nutritionist.
The professional nutritionist would be able to advise if the
weight gain is real and if any adjustments need to be made to
the nutrition and or exercise regime. But before you take this
drastic step and send her to professional help, you need to talk
to the teenager.
If you have a teenager that is expressing a need to lose weight,
then you should do everything that you can to help by giving an
ear to listen to and show courtesy.
Focus On Health And Not Beauty
You really have to be careful though, or you could send them
on a lifetime trail of dieting and unhealthy body image. When
you want to assist with teen diets, you have to review your options
and watch how you speak and what you focus on.
If you talk about looks and clothing sizes, you are going to
do a lot of damage. There are some things kids can bounce back
from, but developing a phobia about gaining a few extra pounds
is not something that you want them to carry around with them
forever.
Teens Are Still Growing
Teen diets can be tricky because they are still growing. They
can’t cut their calories down too far or they may end up
not getting the essential vitamins they need each day. That can
lead to poor health and huge problems.
Teen diets have to be slow diets, and they have to focus on regular
portions of healthy foods and a lot of exercise. It is healthier
to get them moving than to cut down their portions to almost nothing.
Focus On Health And Not Beauty
When it comes to teen diets, make sure you focus on health and
not beauty. Though we all feel that we are more attractive when
we are thin, we don’ t want that to be something that they focus
on.
They should focus on health, well being, and living a longer
life. Though life span is not something that teens seem to take
seriously, you should still make that your focus.
Healthy Living
The best gift you can give them is to make teen diets seem like
they aren’t diets at all, but rather a new way to look at healthy
living.
Check With The Doctor
When teen diets fail, you might want to get intervention from
your doctor. If your child is just twenty pounds overweight that
might not be necessary, but if they are carrying around more than
that, you want to get them help before their health suffers.
You have to be careful how you go about these teen diets, but
you do have to do something for the sake of their health.
Act On Medical Advice
If the doctor agrees that a referral needs to be made to a professional
fully qualified nutritionist, then it should be acted upon quickly
and an appointment made as soon as possible.
If any adjustments need to be made to devise a nutrition or
exercise program or both, then the nutritionist would be able
to advise in a most professional manner.
Once the program is finished and recovery is complete, then your
teenager would be full of life and a bundle of energy again.

Did You Know?
How do I handle child food allergies if my child eats at school?
Handling child food allergies for children that eat lunch
or breakfast at their school can be difficult. You really have no control about
what they eat and what the lunches contain. You can try sending a letter from
your doctor stating the allergies your child has and hope that the school carefully
monitors the food that is given to your child. The best alternative though is to send
food with your child. That way you can control what the food has in it, what it has come
into contact with and prevent any mishaps that may occur if your child is not old enough
to pay attention to what is being served.
