St Patrick’s Day Parade With Irish Eyes All Over Boston

By Patrick D Kelly

Boston, Massachusetts is thriving in the month of March as a number of travelers arrive in mass exodus to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with one of the most Irish cities in the nation.

There’s no shortage of Irish themed restaurants and pubs all year long, not to mention more than seven St Patrick’s Day parade routes to choose from, starting as early as March 6th.

Walking around the city, you’ll find Irish museums, theatrical performances, monuments and statues, which will give you the best holiday short of flying to Dublin, Ireland.

Sunday Parade Starts At Broadway T Station

The best place to stake out your spot for the Boston St Patrick’s Day parade is somewhere near the Broadway T Station, where the parade begins. The Sunday parade starts at 1 pm, but you’ll need to leave yourself several hours to get down there and grab a good spot.

The parade route will move through South Boston’s historic district, down West Broadway to East Broadway, to East 4th Street, to 5th Street, around Thomas Park, to Telegraph Street, to Dorchester Street and ending at Andrew Square.

Festive Irish Events All Around Boston

In addition to the Boston St Patrick’s Day parade, there are a number of other festive Irish events in the month of March. For instance, The Pogues will play a jazz/punk/traditional Irish music concert at the Orpheum Theatre on March 11th, with all of their full original line-up.

Also, the world-famous Dropkick Murphys Irish punk band from Boston will end up playing seven sold-out shows at the House of Blues from March 12th - 17th, so you’d better get your tickets early! You can also check out a new exhibit at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum entitled "JFK and Space," which opens on March 17th.

Start The Comedy Easy With A Breakfast And Roast Of Local Politicians

You’ll see how President Kennedy mobilized the nation’s greatest technological geniuses to be the first to put a man on the moon. If you love comedy, make sure you check out the St. Patrick’s Day breakfast and roast of local politicians at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Hall on March 14th, hosted by State Senator Jack Hart of South Boston. More information on local activities can be found at www.irishmassachusetts.com.

In addition to attending the St Patrick’s Day parade, the next "most Irish thing to do" is to attend a Boston Celtics game. On March 17th at 7:30 pm, the Boston Celtics will face one of their most worthy adversaries -- the New York Knicks at TD Garden.

Boston Basket Package For Sports Fans

Sports fanatics who are less fussy about attending the game on actual Saint Patrick’s Day can find deep discounts with the "Boston Basketball Package" offered by Omni Parker House.

Starting at $369/night, you’ll receive deluxe guest room accommodations at 15% off regular rates, complimentary breakfast for two at Parker’s Restaurant and two tickets to the Celtics game on March 12th or March 26th.

Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated primarily in English speaking countries. Of course the biggest celebrations take place in Ireland but there are many other countries that regularly celebrate this holiday with great gusto.

It is not uncommon to find huge parades and festivities in cities that boast Irish immigrants or a legacy of being built by the Irish. So really, no matter where you go, chances are good that there will be people there celebrating with music, dancing, food and of course…beer.
