St. Patrick’s Day 2010 Parades And Irish Pub Crawls
By Patrick D Kelly
The most traditional way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2010
would be to head to an Irish-Catholic Church for worship. Here
you can say a short prayer in memory of Saint Patrick’s Day.
"Christ be with me, Christ within me/Christ behind me, Christ
before me/Christ beside me, Christ to win me/Christ to comfort
and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me/Christ in quiet
and in danger/Christ in hearts of all that love me /Christ in
mouth of friend and stranger."
In Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day mass is quite common. However,
in America the day is more likely to be celebrated with a review
of parades and pub crawls.
The Better St Patricks Day Parades
It just wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day 2010 without a parade!
The nation’s most celebrated parades happen in Boston, Holyoke,
Chicago, New York City and Scranton. Syracuse, New Orleans, Philadelphia,
Buffalo and St. Louis also offer noteworthy street festivals and
parading.
Many parade routes will literally paint the streets green as
throngs of floats, Irish dancers, musicians, social clubs, politicians
and civil service members march. Some travelers even head to the
motherland for five days of Dublin festivals.
Watch Parades On TV
If your city isn’t blessed with its own parade, then never fear
as the Chicago St. Patty’s Day parade is always broadcast on WGN,
and the New York St. Patrick’s Day parade is broadcast on NBC.
Wearing festive green attire or accessories is one of the ways
you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2010. Often you’ll see extremists
along the parade route dressed in green from head to toe, but
a true Irishman would wear a more subtle touch of green; perhaps
a green tie, a green hat or a green shirt.
Dye Your Hair Green
There are "Kiss Me, I’m Irish" shirts, Guinness shirts,
collared green polo shirts and sweaters from which to choose.
You can also accessorize with shamrock pins, Celtic jewelry or
go really hog-wild and buy a funny leprechaun costume. Some people
have been known to dye their hair green or use colored spray on
their pets to show their Irish pride.
Pubs will be alive with the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day 2010!
Lucky residents of the New England area and upper eastern quadrant
of the United States are blessed with a number of Irish bars and
pubs.
Setting Up An Irish Pub Crawl
Many people like to organize an Irish pub crawl in their city,
renting a bus to transport family and friends to up to ten different
bars. Or, if you’re up to travel, you may want to try one of these
top American Irish pubs; The Plough and Stars (Cambridge, MA),
Paddy Reillys (New York, NY), Kells Irish Pub (Portland, OR),
Black Thorn Bar (Boston, MA), McGuire’s Irish Pub (Pensacola,
FL), Limerick Junction (Atlanta, GA), Black Rose (Boston, MA),
Dubliner (San Francisco, CA), Chief O’Neills Pub (Chicago, IL)
or Kevin Barry’s Irish Pub (Savannah, GA).
While you’re out, be sure you grab a Guinness, a Harp or a Murphy’s
Irish Stout. If whiskey is more your pleasure, then on St. Patrick’s
Day 2010 try Bushmills, Jamesons, Connemara, Redbreast, Michael
Collins or Greenore. Raise your glass and say, "Slainte,"
which is Irish for "to your health."

Did You Know?
How can I create a festive Saint Patrick’s Day party?
The first thing you need to do in order to
create a very festive Saint Patrick’s Day party is to decide if
it is going to be an adults only party or you are going to include
children. This is one holiday that is usually primarily for adults.
So if you choose to go the route of an adult only party you have
lots of options. The first is having food typically associated
with Ireland.
You can make a big pot of lamb stew and
even serve corned beef and cabbage with potatoes and carrots.
As far as beverages go you can tint or dye any beverage to be
green. It will add some fun to the drinks everyone is imbibing
in.
Your decorations can be green streamers,
clovers and plenty of green everywhere you look. You may even
have gold, chocolate wrapped coins strewn across the tables for
people to enjoy.
