Slow Cooker Recipes And The Lazy Cook’s Dream
By Ginger O’Riley
Slow cooker recipes are available online, in cookbooks and in
food magazines. They are also available on food products you buy
from a gourmet food store.
I have seen slow cooker recipes on the back of bags for slow
cookers available at the local food store. Using these bags seems
to have enhanced my cooking skills.
Last week my husband and I had a long talk about my cooking skills.
It’s not that I’m a bad cook, it is that I do not have the patience
to cook a proper meal every night of the week.
He and I are both tired of buying what we call convenience foods.
He asked me if I knew of any great slow cooker recipes that we
might like to try. Sadly, I was fresh out of ideas after I suggested
beef stew.

Online Search
I work online, and I spent a lot of time on my computer, so perhaps
when it comes time to thinking about dinner the last thing I want
to do is search through the Internet for slow cooker recipe ideas.
There was one idea I had, and we are going to try it out this
week. It’s not exactly the idea he was looking for however.
When I was in the grocery store last week I came upon what I
might think to be the greatest slow cooker recipes ever. There,
and the freezer section, was the answer to my prayers. They weren’t
slow cooker recipes, but they were made for the slow cooker.
Bags For Slow Cookers
There were bags in the freezer section made by companies that
I was familiar with, that were meant to cook in a crock pot all
day long. Everything you need for a good meal is in the bag.
All you have to do is put in your slow cooker, turn it on, and
let it cook all day. It’s the answer to a lazy cook’s dreams.
I bought a few of these meals, but I have yet to really look
at the bag. Perhaps I am going to find that I’m not satisfied
with the nutritional value of these meals. I may have to go looking
for slow cooker recipes after all.
Search Through Cookbooks
I did take some time to look through some of the cookbooks I
have in my house, but many of the slow cooker recipes that I found
there are too complicated for me. Though I am big on taste, I
am not a fancy cooking.
If a recipe involves slicing and dicing for longer than 10 minutes,
I am not likely to do it. I need to find slow cooker recipes that
are not only easy, but are also nutritious and healthy as well.
If you are looking for these yourself, make sure you do the same.
Bags For Slow Cookers
Going back to the bags for slow cookers I bought from the food
store, there are a number of recipes for slow cookers on the back
of the bags. I have also noticed there is a phone number and an
email address where I can receive more recipes for slow cookers.
I have since used one of the bags and have cooked according to
the instructions on the bag and the meal was rather delicious.
I didn’t realise how delicious a meal could be until I cooked
this meal.
My husband now can’t wait for me to try the other bags
for slow cookers that I bought. He does not know that I bought
them as a package, he thinks I did all the slicing and dicing,
when they were all ready to cook in the bag.
This is my little secret. Once I use up all the bags I will go
to the grocery store and get more. I will ask my husband which
ingredients he liked best and I will buy more of that bag.
I have also used the email address on the back of the bags, requested
to be sent in the email, some slow cooker recipes.

Did You Know?
What are the kitchen basics I need?
Kitchen basics that every kitchen should have are
pots and pans (in a variety of sizes), measuring cups, measuring spoons,
mixing bowls and an assortment of kitchen gadgets that make life easier.
One of these gadgets is a can opener. Being forced to saw off
the bottom of a can could take a little of the fervor away from
cooking. Also consider keeping whisks, spatulas and tongs as part
of your cooking basics.
Another item basic that is used often is a drainer/strainer.
These can come in the form of bowls or be part of a boiling pan
set. It is used to drain spaghetti water from the pasta or can
be used for anything similar.
