Slow Cooker Is A Time Saver
By Ginger O’Riley
Even though it seems to be a bit of a backward statement at first
glance, it is true that slow cookers can be incredible time savers
for busy people. In fact, many people would give up just about
any other cooking products that they possess just to be sure they
keep their slow cooker, which many people also call crock-pots.
While people don’t immediately equate a slow cooker with a fast
meal, the reality is that effective use of a crock pot means that
the cook spends less time, not more, in their kitchen.
Less Time Cooking And More Time With The Family
Not only does using a slow cooker mean spending less time cooking
and more time with the family, but at the same time they can even
provide better and more nutritious meals. While this article is
not intended to stir up a controversy, there are now some considerable
concerns about potential negative effects of micro-waving foods.
Using a slow cooker delivers a great deal of convenience, while
avoiding these possible microwave issues.
One of the best things is that most people of all ages really
enjoy the flavor and texture and moistness of foods that are prepared
in slow cookers. The meals that are slow cooked are so good because
the food is allowed to cook gently, which releases the natural
flavor and gives the food time to absorb seasonings, and yet it
is not over cooked and dried out.
Foods Do Not Dry Out Or Become Rubbery
At the same time, a slow cooker does not have any problems with
hot spots; foods don’t dry out or become rubbery. These are some
of the problems that occur with food that is fully prepared in
a microwave oven; yet these problems simply do not exist when
a meal is allowed to slowly and gently cook for a few hours.
One of the best things about using a slow cooker, and which has
helped to make crock-pot cooking so popular, is that you can prepare
all of the ingredients for the meal before getting drawn into
a busy and over-scheduled day.
The Meal Cooks Itself While You Are At Work
You simply place the ingredients into the slow cooker, review
your options and follow the instructions in the recipe for the
heat setting, put the lid on the crock-pot, and then go about
your day. The meal basically cooks itself while you are at work,
running errands or managing the household.
In many cases, busy mothers will use a slow cooker in conjunction
with other time-saving cooking products, such as electric fryers,
fish cookers or rice cookers. These other appliances can be useful
in helping to prepare other elements of a complete meal, although
more and more cooks are enjoying a review of their options with
the benefits of the "one pot" meals that can very effectively
be cooked in a slow cooker.
Thousands Of Slow Cooker Recipes
There are some who have come to the conclusion that slow cookers
limit the variety of foods, meals and recipes that can be prepared.
But, this is not the case and there are literally thousands of
slow cooking recipes that one can find in countless recipe books
and on websites that feature recipes, some which specialize in
crock-pot recipes.
On top of that, people who have been using a slow cooker for
awhile are often able to adapt just about any recipe to make it
crock-pot friendly.
