Organic Food For Better Health
By Jane K Hawker
Organic food has become one of the best things to happen in a
long time to the grocery market. When organic food was first introduced
in the 1960’s, the reality was that it had already been around
for many, many years. Organic food is food that has no additives,
no preservatives, and little to no pesticides used.
As long as food has been grown, organic has been available. But,
the actual term organic food did not come around until the renewal
of spirit that the 1960’s brought. Organic food has been a plus
that society has been lacking for some time.

Fresh Organic Food
Fresh organic food is now available in almost every grocery store
in the world. The convenience of selecting natural and organic
food over processed food has become almost second nature. No longer
does a person have to travel a long distance to find a local organic
food supplier.
With the Whole Foods Market grocery chain, the United States
and Canada have access to over 196 stores that offer gourmet deli’s,
organic vitamins, and even organic household cleaners. And with
the introduction of the internet, people around the world
can order fresh organic food twenty four hours a day.
Another positive that organic food has brought is the revenue
that has been generated in the grocery market. The specialty of
organics brings in close to $29 billion in the United States alone.
That is just a fraction of what the grocery market brings in
yearly, however, it is still a significant number to be contended
with. If people continue to be more health conscious, the organic
food market is sure to keep booming and bringing in more cash
than ever.
Health Benefits For Every Age Group
One of the main things about the organic food that is a plus
is the health benefits that every age group can gain. Children
are one of the main age groups that can benefit from this specialty
food. Because of the rise in obesity, kids are getting heavier
day by day.
However, if parents start early in making healthy choices, young
ones will hopefully keep the good choices going for the remainder
of their lives. Even older people can benefit from eating organic
food. In actuality, it is never too late to start making healthy
choices.
Eat Healthier And Make Better Choices
Organic food has once again made a comeback. People all over
the world are beginning to eat healthier and make better choices
about what is put into their bodies.
No matter if it is vitamins that are organic or organic beef,
organic food offers farmers, consumers, and even grocery stores
positive options. Organic food has made going green with food
easier and healthier for all involved.

Did You Know?
What price do consumers pay for organic foods?
Organic foods are higher in price in grocery
stores than those that are not. Farmers must make more per pound
than their competitors due to losing more crops to outside forces
than the conventional farmer will.
How do organic foods affect the land?
Since organic farmers do not use the conventional
pesticides to rid their crops of blight, or in the case of animal
farmers not using antibiotics or growth hormones, larger plots
of land must be used. They must plant more crops to account for
the loss from disease or insects.
How does the USDA determine what constitutes organic food?
There is actually a very complex method to
determine if a farmer or co-op can market their foods as organic.
A division of the United States Department of Agriculture analyzes
the composition of the land, record keeping, and a documentation
of any herbal or chemical pesticides used on the plant, vegetable,
fruit or animal. After passing the certification to label the
farm as "organic" the farmer can then be free to use
the USDA Organic seal on its produce.
Do all farmers have to have USDA seal of approval to label their foods organic?
No. Only farmers seeking certification through
the USDA have the right to label their foods organic. If a non-organic
grower markets their product as organic, huge fines can be given.
