New Year’s Eve Parties All Over The United States Of America
By Katerina Octanova
New Year’s Eve parties are always highly anticipated as "the
party of the year" and many feel such immense pressure to
plan the right event, as to not be disappointed. Each year, revelers
live and learn a little more.
One year, they may find themselves waiting hours in the freezing
cold for a taxi. Another year, the chosen dress attire wasn’t
very practical. Perhaps some of the drink and restroom lines were
too long, the ticket prices too high and the massive crowds too
much.
Yet each year, people look for a new kind of experience that
fosters an environment of "letting loose" and "going
wild," yet also one that is comfortable. Here is a review
of some of the best New Year’s parties around the country.
Huddling Outside In Times Square
When most people think of traveling for New Year’s Eve parties,
they think of New York City. The place to be when the ball drops
is naturally New Yorks Times Square, and huddling outside wearing
multiple layers of clothing with one million other people, screaming
and shouting.
Festivities start around 6pm with the lighting and raising of
the ball. Last year’s musical performances included: Parachute,
Ludacris, The Liberty Bells (sing-a-long), Taylor Swift, Lionel
Richie and the Jonas Brothers.
Sharing The Excitement
There were hourly countdowns with Carson Daly, Ryan Seacrest,
Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper and Raúl de Molina, as well as special
guest appearances by Bill and Hillary Clinton and Mayor Bloomberg.
Times Square is action-packed if you’re looking to share the festivities
with many other excitable yahoos.
Though overshadowed by the Big Apple, the New Year’s Eve Detroit
festivities have gotten pretty popular in recent years. There
are many New Year’s Eve parties to choose from: The Ark ($35,
The Chenille Sisters concert); Boogie Fever Cafe & Disco ($25,
70s/80s disco, champagne, pizza buffet); The Fox Theatre ($55+,
Barenaked Ladies concert); Laurel Park Manor ($85, hors d’oeuvres,
dinner, open bar, dessert table, live entertainment from Ultra
Violet); Hyatt Regency Dearborn: New Year’s Eve Rock‘N’Roll Ball
($45, rock); Star Clipper Train ($135+, five-course meal, champagne,
dancing, favors, four shows); The Village Theatre at Cherry Hill
($50, late night buffet, champagne toast, the music of Dean Martin/Beatles/Elvis).
As you can see, Detroit has all sorts of festivities planned this
year!
Tournament Of Roses Parade In Pasadena
Pasadena, California has been home to some of the nation’s most
treasured New Year’s Eve parties and New Year’s Day festivities
for more than a century. The 121st Tournament of Roses parade
will take place on January 1, 2010 at 8 am, featuring towering
floats designed from roses, high-stepping horses, ballroom dancers,
pyrotechnic displays and marching bands.
Following the parade, the 91st Rose Bowl football game will take
place featuring the top two college teams in the country. The
history of the Rose Bowl began as the "Tournament East-West
football game" in 1902 with Stanford playing the University
of Michigan. After a score of 49-0 (Michigan), the officials wondered
if chariot races, ostrich races and other events would be better
than football.
However, football returned with a vengeance in 1916, with The
State College of Washington vs. Brown University in the first
annual Rose Bowl game. With sports and parades, Pasadena has something
for the whole family.

Did You Know This About New Years Eve?
Should I make my New Years Eve party for all ages or just adults?
That is a difficult question to answer because
it all depends on the type of party you intend to have. Obviously
if there is heavy drinking going to be involved, many parents
are not going to want their children to be around.
NYE celebrations tend to not involve children
as much since most parents use this opportunity to celebrate on
their own. But there are ways to make any party an all age event.
You just have to keep in mind the ages of the children and the
fact that many small children will not be able to stay away until
midnight.
If you do decide to do an "adults only"
party, make sure you tell your guests this important fact. You
can phrase it in a very tactful way so that it does not seem as
if you are ostracizing the adults with children.
