New Year’s Day Party Celebrations All Around The World

By Katerina Octanova

New Year’s Day is a time for reflection. Radio and TV broadcasts, as well as newspapers, will often comment on events from the previous year to reflect upon our world’s state of affairs and what has changed.

You may want to take an introspective look at your own evolution over the past year. What were your successes and your failures? What would you like to continue doing in the new year and what would you like to change?

New Years Day is your fresh start, where you may choose to get moving on those resolutions. Yet, you may also wish to just enjoy your day off from work and engage in a fun family activity.

Finding A Hot Buffet

No matter how hard you partied the night before, many people would agree that a New Year’s Day party brunch is just what the doctor ordered. After all, it’s much easier to sleep the day away with a full stomach!

The best option is to find a hot buffet that serves eggs, omelets, sausage, bacon, potatoes, breads, jellies, cream cheese, Jell-o, fruit, salads and lunch meats. Bring out the juice and coffee to really fight that "half-dead-fly-buzzing-at-the-window" feeling!

Food Celebrations At A Restaurant

You can orchestrate this event at your home if you feel up to it or you can find a local restaurant offering just such a feast. Food celebrations make wonderful annual traditions, whether you’re meeting with out-of-town family, friends or your kids.

A New Year’s Day football party is a popular pastime in America. The wives get together and cook up appetizers like nachos, pizza dip, chili, hot pretzels, potato skins and mini cocktail wieners, while they visit and chit-chat.

Rose Bowl Game On TV

Meanwhile, the husbands hoot and holler over the television set all day long. The most popular game is the Rose Bowl Game in Pasadena, California, which follows the Tournament of Roses parade. Last year, Penn State played the University of Southern California at 4:30 pm on ABC.

The Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida featured Clemson vs. Nebraska, broadcast on CBS at 1pm. The Outback Bowl in Tampa Bay, Florida had South Carolina squaring off against Iowa at 11am on ESPN. The Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida began at 1pm on ABC with Georgia vs. Michigan State.

The Orange Bowl Game In Miami, Florida

The FedEx Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida featured Cincinnati vs. Virginia Tech at 8:30 pm on FOX. This year’s competitors will undoubtedly change, but as you can see, there is no shortage of games on January 1st!

England, Scotland and the United States host football tournaments each year on New Year’s Day. In Pasadena, California, the Rose Bowl football games showcase the best of college football following the Tournament of Roses parade.

The Oldest Cold Water Swimming Club

Vienna, Austria holds a concert each year on New Year’s Day. London holds a popular New Years Day parade and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Mummers Parade on Broad Street is also very esteemed. Modesto, California holds foot races and breakfasts to help jumpstart people’s resolutions.

The Coney Island Polar Bears Club in New York is the oldest cold-water swimming club in the US and they’ve been taking the plunge on January 1st since 1903. Depending on where you live, you can review your options and create your own traditions.

Did You Know This About New Years Eve?

How can I make my New Years Eve party unique?
A great way to make your New Years Eve party truly unique is to make it a formal event. Have everyone dress up in their best formal attire and then watch the fireworks go off at midnight. You can also turn it into a costume party.

Make sure someone dresses up as the New Year baby complete with a sash and diaper while someone else dresses up as Father Time with his clock and scythe.

You can hire a DJ or a band to provide entertainment and make sure there are plenty of finger foods for people to nosh on in case they get hungry. The party can be as lively or as animated as you want it to be.
