Increase Variety With New Recipes
By Frank Russelton
New recipes can be both intriguing and frightening. Maybe you
are tired of the same old macaroni and cheese casserole but are
afraid to try a new dish. Rest assured that there are others in
the same boat as you find yourself in.
There are some tips to keeping your sanity while preparing new
recipes and retiring those old worn out meals. Keep it simple,
keep it fun and go into it with a fresh approach.
The joy of cooking comes from the end product. Perhaps it is
that perfect soufflé or roast duck surrounded by tender vegetables
in a butter sauce. Whatever you are cooking, it should be something
that you enjoy and would like to eat.
If you are not a fan of brussel sprouts then it would not make
much sense to waste time preparing them. Step one: new recipes
come from a desire to eat the finished product––so find something
appealing.
Look For A Variety Of Sources
The second step to finding new recipes is to review your options
and look at a variety of sources. Friends, family members and
co–workers are great sources of recipes. There are also
free recipes on a variety of websites.
Try using a search engine such as Google to find an ethnic cuisine
or any other world recipes. The options for new recipes are endless
and are only limited by your ability to search.
Use Different Cooking Utensils
Sometimes new recipes require a different set of cooking utensils.
An example would be preparing sushi at home. One of the requirements
for making a sushi roll is a bamboo sushi mat.
Do not attempt to improvise on some utensils because it will
prove to be harder in the long run rather than just buying the
required cooking utensils right from the start.
Read the recipe carefully and make a note of all the utensils
you will need before beginning.
Preparing A New Recipe For A Gathering
Here is one further tip when trying to create new recipes. If
you are preparing a new recipe for a gathering, try making it
a few days in advance. The added stress of trying something new
when pressured for time can often be a recipe for disaster.
This is especially true if the dish does not turn out quite like
you imagined. Prepare the dish, taste it and then decide if it
is something you want to share with friends or family.
Experience Different Sensations And New Recipes
Many people live their lives around a day–to–day menu. Each week
it is the same meal on the same day. Life is about experiencing
different sensations and new recipes should be one of these.
The internet has provided us with a veritable buffet of new recipes
and ideas. Surf the web and find dishes that spark an interest.
It may be Thai or even Japanese cuisine that comes to your dining
table.

Did You Know?
What is an appropriate age to begin teaching children how to cook?
As soon as a child can learn simple commands,
safety rules and understands how to grasp utensils, they can learn to cook.
Experts agree that children should be no younger than nine when handling
sharp utensils and should always have adult supervision. Accidents can
happen very quickly in the kitchen.
It has been proven time and time again that children learn through
imitation. Buy your child a play cooking set. Let them "pretend"
too cook their favorite dishes on using plastic play sets and
a play stove. Before long they will develop a love that is similar
to your own.
