Muffin Baskets To Bring Cheer At A Difficult Time

By Patricia Gorginas

Muffin baskets are a perfect gift to give to a friend who has been diagnosed with an illness or suffered an accident and is now hospitalized or just out of hospital. To bring a little cheer to your friend at a difficult time.

Always take into consideration if your friend has allergies to any foods, including sugar (may be a diabetic), chocolate and nuts. You can always ask her friends or members of her family, if they know of any food allergies your friend may have.

Brighten The Day Of Your Sick Friend

Adjustments can be made to the order for a muffin basket once these allergies are known. Accidents, illnesses and surgery can all leave a person feeling weak. Recuperation time is necessary, when you are feeling under the weather.

It’s always a lovely gesture to send flowers and a card to someone to wish them a speedy recovery, but you can review your options and find there is something else you can do, that is certain to brighten their day. Sending or taking muffin baskets to a sick friend, will show them how much you care.

A Variety Of Different Muffins

Local bakeries are seeing the potential in putting together gift baskets for their customers, who want to give something outside the box.

Most of us have seen flower and fruit baskets. Even fine chocolate gift baskets are becoming more common place. Ordering muffin baskets from a bakery is both easy and convenient.

Typically you’ll be able to request a variety of different muffins and when presented in a big wicker basket, it’s a thoughtful gift to give.

Need To Consider Food Allergies

Allergies are something that needs to be taken into consideration before you place an order for one of these delicious gifts.

Many people are highly allergic to nuts, so it’s important to mention this to the bakery beforehand. If they can’t guarantee that their muffin baskets are completely nut-free you should either look elsewhere or make the basket yourself.

It may seem a bit daunting to imagine baking different varieties of muffins and then arranging them in a basket, but it’s much easier than it looks.

Bake Your Own Muffins

The best approach to this if you do decide to put on an apron, roll up your sleeves and do it yourself, is to prepare a base muffin mix. Make enough for a dozen large muffins. From there you can add flavorings to the mix to create different types of muffins.

If you really aren’t sure what they prefer, a safe route to take is to make fruit flavored muffins. Blueberry, cranberry, orange and banana muffins are all easy to make and appeal to almost everyone.

You can always confirm your friends' taste by speaking to friends and family members, prior to baking the muffins yourself.

Place Muffins In A Large Wicker Basket

After they’ve cooled, place them all in a large wicker basket. If your friend likes coffee or tea, adding a packet or two of that is a nice addition too.

Then all you need to do is wrap the muffin baskets up in clear cellophane, put a large ribbon around the top and all that is left is the delivery. One little tip that will serve you well when you are preparing this type of unique and always appreciated gift, is to make a few extra muffins for yourself.

Enjoy Your Delicious Snacks

It’s almost impossible to spend time baking something and then try a little taste. The best part about muffins is that they are actually healthy so you won’t feel as bad enjoying these delicious snacks.

Eating a couple of the muffins yourself, you will know that they are delicious and have not added a little too much of any ingredients. Always take into consideration, the choice of muffins best liked by your friend.

Your Efforts Will Be Much Appreciated

If you know your friend likes coffee and banana muffins, but cannot stand chocolate muffins, then make sure your friend doesn't receive any chocolate muffins in the muffin basket.

Showing due consideration and your effort in making the muffins yourself, will be much appreciated by your friend.

Did You Know?

How did Mother's Day begin?
It is hard to pinpoint exactly when Mother's Day, or similar celebrations, actually began. Some think it goes back to ancient Greece where festivals were held to honor the mother of the Greek gods, Cybele.

Others believe that it actually started on a holiday called Maronalia which was celebrated by the ancient Romans. The holiday of Matronalia was a dedication to the Roman goddess Juno and mothers were given gifts to celebrate and honor their part.

Early Catholics, celebrated Laetare Sunday which is the fourth day of Lent. It is held to honor the Virgin Mary and the church itself.
