Mother’s Day Gifts For A Special Mum
By Jane Kliperrs
The importance of Mother's Day gifts and the holiday in
general are learned at an early age. Typically, the father will
arrange with young children to do something special for the mother,
and preschool as well as elementary schools will usually focus
on this special day in class, at some point in early May.
Gifts for mom are usually made or bought by dad when children
are still quite young, yet there are a number of different types
of gifts that the mother can usually expect to receive.
Mother’s Day cards are a big seller and many children will also
make their own cards as a Mother’s Day gift. If the card is made
at school, then usually it will be bright and colorful with simple
drawings and any number of items glued on as decoration.
Children Creating A Gift For Their Mother
While perhaps not works of art, these cards can be the type of
items that a mother will cherish and keep as mementos for years
and years.
When children are still young, a Mother’s Day gift tends to be
some kind of homemade craft. Children will spend hours assembling
jewelry, photo frames or stands, and other types of ornaments
that would seem too bright and colorful for any other purpose
than a Mother’s Day gift.
These Mother’s Day crafts are usually made at school, though
resourceful kids will spend time at home creating something special
for their mother.
Most Teens Buy A Gift
Mothers Day gifts may go through a change once a child enters
their teen years. It isn’t as cool then to make something
for mom, and if they have an allowance or a part-time job, they
will review their options and present their mother with a gift
out of their own pockets.
Most teens are willing to do this and thus will purchase Mother’s
Day flowers, a card or a small gift. Other teens who don’t have
as much free money can choose to continue to create items for
their mothers or give their mothers coupons for special services.
Gift Of Services Around The Home
These coupons will state what the teen will do, such as clean
a room, do a chore that they don’t normally have to do, or even
make mom breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Mother’s Day gifts that are handmade mean a lot to any mother,
and young children love to make things and present them to their
moms. Teenagers can continue to do the same even if they can buy
a gift or Mother’s Day flowers.
A Gift From The Heart
Picking out flowers that they know their mom will love means
that they aren’t just giving a gift because they have to, but
because they want to. These ideas are all useful for children
of all ages to consider as Mother’s Day approaches.
Mothers tend to love to receive gifts that are from the heart
and not just an expensive box of chocolates that was easy to purchase.

Did You Know?
Why is Mother’s Day singularly possessive? Shouldn’t it be plural
for all mothers?
Anna Jarvis is the one who trademarked the
phrase "Mother’s Day" and it was for a very specific reason.
She believed that by making it singularly
possessive it was for each family to honor their mother rather
than using a possessive use that would honor mothers all over
the world.
Even President Woodrow Wilson used the
singular possessive when making it an officially recognized holiday.
It can be found though in plural possessive depending on those
using it.
