Make Iced Coffee To Relax In The Summertime

By John Cranby

Make iced coffee for your family to enjoy over the summer months. You can continue to enjoy iced coffee over the colder months. Look, it may be cold outside and everything is covered with snow, you can still enjoy your favourite choice of coffee, whenever you are on a break, to help you relax during the day and night.

Although some people avoid coffee at night, if you are staying up to do some work or watching a late night movie with your family, then you may need coffee to help you stay awake. If you are having an early night, then you avoid coffee for the night.

During summer time, it is always relaxing to sit in a comfortable chair on the patio with your family and enjoy an iced coffee.

Summer Is The Time For Iced Coffee

During the summer, the days are sometimes just too hot to be craving a hot cup of coffee. That’s when it’s time to make iced coffee. My wife loves to drink coffee all day long, so that was my inspiration to come up with some recipes for iced coffee.

Along the way, I discovered that I could save some money on those little bottles of pricey Cappuccino she loves so much, recreating a close approximation with a simple recipe. Here, I’d like to share some of the many ways I found to make iced coffee, with a number of variations. First, we’ll go over the basic process of making iced coffee and then review our options and get into specific recipes that are easy, economical and delicious.

Make A Stronger Brew

Naturally, you start with freshly brewed coffee. When you intend the pot to make iced coffee, you’ll want to make the brew a bit stronger than you would for hot coffee. The reason? When coffee is ice cold, the flavor is subdued. As soon as the pot is done, remove it from the warming tray and allow to cool slightly.

When cooled, pour the warm coffee into a one or two quart juice container and refrigerate. Make another pot of coffee, allow to cool and pour the unsweetened coffee into several ice cube trays. (When frozen, you can store in a large freezer bag and store until ready to use.) Using coffee ice cubes prevents your drink from becoming diluted with water.

When you make iced coffee, it’s best to make each serving individually when you’re adding cream, spices or other flavorings, for a truly fresh taste. Of course, you can serve ‘as is’, plain coffee and ice cubes, but there are several interesting variations.

Adding Cinnamon To Make Mexican Coffee

For iced Mexican coffee, add to the coffee in the brewing basket a ½ teaspoon of cinnamon per pot. Proceed with the basic process described above. This drink is enhanced with a couple of tablespoons of whipped cream on top.

To make iced coffee which is quite close to those commercial Cappuccino drinks, for each tall glass, use a teaspoon of sugar with a dash or two of chocolate liqueur or those delightful Torani(R) syrups and half-and-half to taste.

One Tablespoon Of Torani Syrup

Most large supermarkets carry a good lineup of the Torani(R) syrups in flavors such as chocolate, vanilla and hazelnut, all of which go well with coffee. A small bottle of these syrups go a long way – just a tablespoon is sufficient for one beverage.

For a delicious after dinner iced coffee drink, try spiking your coffee with a couple of tablespoons of Kahlua(TM) and fresh whipping cream, straight from the carton to taste. Stir well.

Adding Irish Whisky To Make Irish Coffee

You can also make iced coffee that simulates Irish coffee, adding a tablespoon of Irish whiskey to a balloon style wine glass (to make room for the ice cubes) and topping with whipped cream. These iced coffee recipes also make great party beverages – but you’ve got to watch it – one or two glasses can sneak up on you!

So there you have several ways to make iced coffee to keep your coffee lovers happy all summer long. The procedure is simple, the ingredients economical and the taste delicious.

Enjoying Iced Coffee In Colder Weather

Even though the seasons may be changing and summer is over, and all the children are heading to school. In the quiet of the day, you can still enjoy a cup of delicious iced coffee. You may have learned how to make iced coffee over summer, you can continue to make the same coffee, over the colder months, although you may not want to add too many coffee ice cubes in the depths of winter.

It is now the time to experiment with different flavours and different brews of coffee, so you can enjoy the best tasting iced coffee over the next summer. In our family we like to brew our coffee in the morning and enjoy a number of cups throughout the day.

Buying Your Favourite Coffee

We buy our coffee, from the specialist coffee shop, where we can buy our syrups and cinnamon to increase the flavour in the coffee. Making the coffee ice cubes, is a delight among the younger members of the family, who cannot believe you can make ice cubes with coffee.

They think we place a bag of coffee in the freezer and voila! Out come the ice cubes. One day, I decided to show them how I make the coffee ice cubes and they were amazed at the easy procedure involved.

Now the family knows how to make coffee ice cubes, when summer comes around, we can again enjoy to make iced coffee.
