By Sanjay R M Gupta
Indian recipes are enjoyed around the world. They are known for
their use of spices, fresh ingredients and a large range of delicious
recipes.
For years, Indian recipes have been famous and
everyone wants to learn to cook the Indian way. Indian curry is
one Indian recipe that has been known for almost 5,000 years.
The word 'curry' is actually derived from the word 'kaikari'.
The term “kari” means vegetables that are cooked in
spices.
Curry is presently a symbolic word for Indian dishes in Britain.
Curry can be eaten with rotis or even rice. If you want to learn
how to cook curry, you need to look for the best Indian recipes.
You can look for it on websites and directories or you can ask
a friend or a cook to teach you.
But before you start to cook Indian recipes, you first need to
understand and be familiar with the different terms and ingredients
that they are using. This is important so that you will know the
outcome or the taste of their dishes. It is also important to
be familiar with the taste of the ingredients.
This is essential because you will get to taste the food only
after you have successfully cooked Indian recipes. How will you
like the taste if you do not like the ingredients? Just make sure
that you are used to eating the different ingredients that go
into the preparation of Indian recipes and food.
Spices
Indian recipes, as you will notice, are full of spices. There
are only a few kinds of Indian recipes that do not include spices.
In fact, it has been part of their everyday life and routine when
it comes to food. These spices have been derived from the plants
and some from the aromatic dried bark and seeds and fruits. The
spices are being heated either in oil or boiled water in order
to release their flavor.
When you have made preserves of spices, you can store them in
glass jars or in containers where they will not lose their aroma
and flavor. If the flavor is released, it will not taste good
when it is mixed with all the other ingredients.
Bhuna process
The word 'Bhuna' is a term which is known to Indian cooking.
This refers to cooking different spices in oil in order to release
the flavor of the natural oils and also the flavor of the spices.
In simple terms, this could mean just fry in oil.
Most recipes will include cooking or frying of spices in oil
so I am sure that you are familiar with this process. Bhuna can
also remove the raw taste of meat and other spices. Indian recipes
may include meat or chicken so it is important to apply the Bhuna
process or step in cooking.
Curry Powder
This will give a savory taste because the oils and flavors are
extracted and transferred to the meat. If you want to cook curry,
you can cook it easily because you can buy curry powder. You can
add and use the curry powder in the Indian recipes that you are
cooking.
This will bring a good taste to your curry Indian recipe. This
consists of all the complete spices and seasonings that you need.
Now that you are familiar with some of the terms, you can now
follow an Indian recipe and cook it on your own.

Did You Know?
What are the kitchen basics I need?
Kitchen basics that every kitchen should have are
pots and pans (in a variety of sizes), measuring cups, measuring spoons,
mixing bowls and an assortment of kitchen gadgets that make life easier.
One of these gadgets is a can opener. Being forced to saw off
the bottom of a can could take a little of the fervor away from
cooking. Also consider keeping whisks, spatulas and tongs as part
of your cooking basics.
Another item basic that is used often is a drainer/strainer.
These can come in the form of bowls or be part of a boiling pan
set. It is used to drain spaghetti water from the pasta or can
be used for anything similar.
