Holiday Parties With Ideas For Christmas

By Katerina Octanova

The holiday season is sometimes stressful and holiday parties can add a little bit more stress on top of that. Party planning in itself takes a lot time and effort but when the party includes extended family as well, such as your in-laws, then it has a tendency to add a great deal more stress to the festive arrangements. But, with a little extra planning you should be able to pull it off with only a minimal amount of worry.

When considering how to plan a Christmas party that will include a large number of many family members, you should start with what you know. For example, if your dad does not get along with your father-in-law at all, then do as much as you can to keep them separated, especially at the table if you will be having a sit down dinner.

Reducing Risk Of Family Conflicts

Serving alcohol at holiday parties is not always the best idea and when it comes to a family party at Christmas it can cause extra problems, as some people are more likely to say things when they have had a little too much to drink.

You can avoid this by trying out different holiday ideas for refreshments. Consider having an eggnog and coffee bar with different creams or other additives to spice them up a bit.

Including Likes And Dislikes On The Menu

Holiday party ideas of this type also need special planning when it comes to the menu, as some people have very strong likes and dislikes. However, that can also be a plus when it is a party that involves family.

You already know up front what most of the people do and do not like and if you cannot work around that, or if you are worried that both mom and mom-in-law are going to be offended that you did not use their great stuffing recipe, then just come up with an entirely new and different menu.

Just make it completely different than anything that has been served before, other than the basics of course. In this way, no one can be upset that you did not include this or that with your dinner.

Grandchildren Opening Christmas Gifts

Coming up with a gift for Christmas party revelers that includes family can be difficult as well; someone is almost always bound to feel left out or a little resentful about the type of gifts given.

One way to diffuse this type of situation at holiday parties is to use children if you have them. Seriously, grandchildren are great for relieving that kind of tension. Simply have them open their gifts and if possible just have the rest of the relatives take theirs home.

You could always give everyone the same kind of gift while at the party, perhaps something that you have made. If you have other gifts for your closer kin, then you may want to consider giving them at another time in private.

Did You Know?

How should gifts be handled during a Christmas party?
Giving gifts at a Christmas party can be a bit hectic. Sometimes you know exactly what to get that person and other times you may be at a complete loss. If your Christmas party ideas involve gift giving then you may want to start looking early in the year.

Just pay attention to what someone has been talking about. Chances are they will let you know, without being aware so, of the perfect gift idea for them. If money is a problem then you can always make a gift.

Sometimes it is the gifts that are homemade that turn out to be the best presents of all. The one thing you definitely want to make sure of is to ensure that everyone at your party receives a gift.

To do this you can play games where inexpensive gifts are exchanged or you can draw names. That way everyone will have something and get to participate.
