Gluten Allergy And Maintaining Your Diet
By Julia Taylor-Fernandez
Gluten allergy affects people who cannot eat wheat protein in
their food, as it affects their health. If you suspect you may
have a food allergy, you should visit your medical doctor, where
you will be sent for diagnostic tests to confirm your allergy.
If the tests confirm a gluten allergy, then you will be advised
of the types of food you need to avoid, including food with wheat
protein like breads and cookies.
But, all is not lost. There are many food products that are gluten
free, including gluten free bread and gluten free cookies. If
there is a food product that you enjoy, look for an alternative,
by finding the same food product but available as a gluten free
alternative.
Although a limited range of gluten free products can be found
in many food stores, the largest range of gluten free products
are found in health food stores. As long as you find gluten free
products, life should not be difficult when living with a gluten
allergy.
Feeling Tired And Run Down All The Time
There are many things that can make us feel blah and down on
a daily basis. If depression is not the problem, it could be that
something physical is going on. Though depression is more common
then people think, it is not always the reason someone has problems
with energy levels.
On the other hand, this problem does not necessarily mean something
horrible is wrong. More than likely, there is a simple condition
that someone has that can be treated rather easily. Something
as simple as a gluten allergy can make life hard, but it does
not have to be that way.
Living With A Gluten Allergy
There are a lot of people who live with a gluten allergy every
day, and they have no idea what is going on. They are probably
a bit tired, and they also have some very unusual digestive problems.
Most have what they think of as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome),
but in reality it is the food they are putting in their body rather
than a different medical condition. They may feel bloated, crampy,
and have to rush to the bathroom a few times a day. That is no
way to live, but it is easy to solve.
Wheat Protein Affecting The Body
A gluten allergy means that any food containing wheat protein
is going to upset the body. All allergies are the result of some
sort of protein, so that explains why wheat is a problem. Though
you may not think of wheat as a source of protein, it is in there.
The gluten allergy will act up when someone has any foods with
those wheat proteins included. Staying away from those foods can
go a long way towards keeping the symptoms at bay, and can even
stop them all together.
See Your Medical Doctor
If you think you may have a gluten allergy, go in and see your
doctor. It might only take a change in diet to turn your energy
and symptoms around. In fact, if you start the diet and you feel
better within a few days, you know you have found the problem.
The gluten allergy diet can be rather hard to follow, but it
is much easier to live with than the side effects of ingesting
the wheat proteins. You may have to give up some things that you
love, but you will also find that there are some replacement products
on the market just for people like you. That can make following
the eating plan so much easier to do.
Look For Gluten Free Products In Health Food Stores
One of the first steps to following a gluten free diet, is to
look for gluten free products in your favourite food store. There
may be a limited range of products at your normal food store,
you may need to visit a health food store, where the range is
much wider, giving you a bigger choice of products.
You may be surprised by the range of products available, that
will meet your gluten free requirements. Even most of the food
you buy made with wheat, you can buy with alterative ingredients.
Gluten Free Food
For example, you can buy gluten free bread and gluten free biscuits.
You do not have to miss out on your favorite food, just because
you are now on a gluten free diet, all you need to do, is to look
for alternatives, that do not include gluten.
You may find the health food store is your best source of gluten
free products to help maintain your health and manage your gluten
allergy.

Did You Know?
What are the kitchen basics I need?
Kitchen basics that every kitchen should have are
pots and pans (in a variety of sizes), measuring cups, measuring spoons,
mixing bowls and an assortment of kitchen gadgets that make life easier.
One of these gadgets is a can opener. Being forced to saw off
the bottom of a can could take a little of the fervor away from
cooking. Also consider keeping whisks, spatulas and tongs as part
of your cooking basics.
Another item basic that is used often is a drainer/strainer.
These can come in the form of bowls or be part of a boiling pan
set. It is used to drain spaghetti water from the pasta or can
be used for anything similar.
