Choosing Better Gift Baskets For Mother

By Jane Kliperrs

To be ready for Mother's Day, the gift basket idea seems like the perfect way to wrap up a bunch of little surprises into a thoughtful package. Who doesn’t love to pick their way through a number of carefully selected items? However, some online Mothers Day gift baskets can cost well over $100! Instead, you may want to make your own Mothers Day present for far less, not to mention that mom will smile with delight over how considerate you are!

For Mother’s Day, you might want to go with a "Bed-and-Breakfast" Mothers Day gift basket, which is a great way to pamper someone! In your wicker basket, place gourmet pancake mix (something other than the usual Hungry Jack, Bisquick or Aunt Jemima brand). Breakfast tea and flavored syrups make nice complements.

All The Tools She Needs To Lounge In Bed

You can go for real maple, strawberry, blueberry or even ice wine. Top it off by adding a small floral table cloth, along with a mini breakfast-in-bed tray table to ensure she has all the tools she needs to lounge in bed while her husband and children pamper her! You might want to also plop a dainty orchid inside a coffee/tea mug to make a nice focal centerpiece to this decorative basket.

Of course, food isn’t ideal for Mother’s Day in every case. Some moms are just used to grabbing whatever they need from the supermarket without a moment’s hesitation, so they’re not likely to be all too impressed by snacks they could have just purchased themselves. In that case, the "Spa" Mothers Day gift basket is always a popular hit.

Local Spa Gift Certificate

Numerous surveys have revealed that moms like to be pampered, even if they hate to admit it. You may want to spend a few bucks and include a local spa gift certificate for $50 to $100 so she can get a pedicure, manicure, facial, massage or another service.

You can fill up the basket yourself with fragrant shampoos, body washes, massage oils, bath beads, a fluffy towel or robe, face masks, moisturizing lotions and slippers. You can find the items you need at a store like CVS or Target, as well as at beauty salons or specialty shops like Ulta and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Book Lover’s Mothers Day Gift Basket

If your mom has a particular hobby she is mad about, then you should know what she’d most desire for Mother’s Day. For instance, a "Book Lover’s Mothers Day gift basket" can include a Borders gift certificate, a book mark, tea or coffee, biscotti and chocolate, a book light, a head rest pillow, a classical music CD and an aromatherapy candle for the ultimate reading experience!

A "Gardener’s Mothers Day gift basket" could include a terra cotta pot, durable gloves, wind chimes, packets of seeds, gardening shears, a watering can and a small live plant to spruce things up a bit. Who would forget such a special gift?
