Food Containers To Store Your Food
By Patrick D Kelly
Food containers can be used to store food, including fresh food
to hold until served in a meal. You can buy empty food containers
at the supermarket and place them all around the kitchen, to store
food and use when required.
Some food containers even allow you to cook food while it is
in the container. Especially if you wish to microwave your food.
The biggest problem is when you buy food in food containers.
The empty boxes tend to build up around the kitchen and fill the
garbage bag rather quickly. This is the time, when you need to
review your options and find better ways to dispose of food containers.
A Very Small Place
One of the biggest problems I have when it comes to keeping my
home clean is figuring out what to do with the food containers
that seem to pile up. I have a very small place, and even one
pizza box can be a problem.
It seems that everything comes in an unmanageable box, even many
of the things that we buy at the grocery store. Though there are
some things that can be torn up to fit inside the garbage can,
some of them seem to be indestructible. There are days when I
feel like the food containers are taking over my life.
Too Big And Difficult To Cut Apart
If I had a place outside to store garbage it would be much easier
to deal with the food containers. I don’t though, and I
must take each bag out as it fills to be disposed of. It’s
not an ideal situation but it is the way things are for us.
Most of the food containers are too big for my can, and most
of them require a hacksaw to get apart. If I can rip something
up and get it into the bag that is fine, but that is not always
something I can do.
Food Containers For Leftovers
I also have a problem with the food containers you keep in your
home for leftovers. I have one very large drawer in my kitchen
that can fit all sorts of things, but I use it for my food containers.
I have other drawers, of course, but this one is by far the biggest
one. The problem is that the containers are unruly, and I don’t
have time sort them every single time I have to take something
out or when I need to put the clean stuff away.
The Problem Of Messy Cupboards
They make food containers that are supposed to nestle within
each other, and some that are the same size that are supposed
to snap together, but so far these have not helped me with my
problem. The problem is not the food containers. That much I know.
The problem is me.
I don’t have enough time to sort them or snap them together.
In most cases I have to throw them in there and run. If you ever
visit my house, I wouldn’t suggest opening any cupboard without
first putting on a helmet and even then you do so at your own
risk.
New Food Containers
As a solution I bought some new food containers, with a variety
of sizes. I have looked at how my friends use food containers
in their homes to get better kitchen ideas. I observed some food
containers are in the refrigerator, some are in the cupboards,
some are in the draws and some are on the kitchen bench.
As a solution I will spread my food containers around, so they
are all over the kitchen depending on the food present. If there
is some leftover food, I will place the food in the container
and put it in the fridge. I will keep my fruit in an open container
on the kitchen table, to let the family to eat fruit whenever
the need arises.
I have realised that working with food containers in a restricted
space like my kitchen, is a matter of space management.

Did You Know?
Can using a wooden cutting board lead to food contamination?
Wooden cutting boards can lead to food
contamination if you are cutting raw meat on the same surface
that you then use to cut vegetables. It is highly recommended
that you use a glass or silicon cutting board when cutting
meats.
You can still keep the wooden cutting board but limit its use
to strictly raw vegetables and breads. That way you do not have
to worry about cross contamination. However, you do need to still
clean the cutting board thoroughly.
You can do this by putting it in the dishwasher or using the
sink to clean it in very hot water.
