Fathers Day Ideas With Creative Service Gifts
By Jane Kliperrs
Fathers Day ideas needn’t be lavish. Men, in general, are simple
creatures to please. Maybe it’s a nice cold beer and a grilled
steak that makes their day. Perhaps, it’s a day off of work, chores
and obligations, when he can just kick back on the golf course
or in the swimming pool that he craves most.
A ball game, a hike, a bike ride or just time spent together
may be what he’s in need of most come the third Sunday in June.
Or perhaps he’d like a homemade Father Day card or gift this year.
Better Budgeting Magazine recently polled their readers for a
list of Father’s Day ideas that proved to be affordable, yet creative.
For some, acts of service spoke loudest of all in showing the
Father’s Day message of love.
A Gift Of Service Is An Excellent Idea
Susie Z of Alabama wrote, "I asked our two teenagers to
do some yard work that my husband had not had the time to do.
They worked really hard at it most of the day. They accomplished
a lot. That afternoon I gave them a hand made card and they wrote
a note in it and shared about the work they had done for him.
It was a great gift and cost no money."
There are other gifts of service that make excellent Fathers
Day ideas. For instance, mom Linda says she had her kids clean
her husband’s car inside and out. She adds, "This gift was
almost completely cost-free, except for a little soap and water!"
Sons And Daughters Pleasing Their Father With Chores
Eleven-year-old Madison R. of California said she traced her
hand on a piece of construction paper and wrote down all the chores
she complained about doing -- dusting, washing dishes, cleaning
her room, etc.
She wrote one chore on each finger and gave it to her father,
saying he could make her do those five things anytime he wished
and she promised not to complain. Son Fico Cuervo made nearly
100 coupons in a box for his dad to be split among him and his
siblings; they made coupons for free car washes, hugs and other
items that he could pick from the box each week.
A Delicious Dinner
Mom Karla G. had her kids make a delicious dinner of fresh fish,
vegetables, salad, strawberries and whipped cream for less than
$15. Similarly, daughter Maria D. made her dad frozen pizzas using
pre-made crusts, a can of pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni for
less than $10.
Some of the best Fathers Day ideas involve simply spending time
with dear old dad. Pack a picnic lunch, review your options and
head for a state park on a nice day for hiking, biking, Frisbee
playing or canoeing.
Relaxing With Dad On A Summers Day
Baseball games, mini-golf, horseback riding and sailing excursions
are other nice treats for a sunny summer day. If the weather is
dreary, try attending a theater performance, going to the movies,
enjoying a dinner at dad’s favorite restaurant or playing a few
rounds of bowling.
When planning your Father’s Day activities, be sure to get dad’s
input first. Try to think of what his special hobbies and pursuits
are, as well as what his mood is like. For instance, you wouldn’t
want to plan something active if your father has just worked six
twelve-hour days in a row.
Instead, he may be up for something more relaxing. On the other
hand, if you’ve got a dad who works a relatively sedentary desk
job, he might be keen for something more rigorous.
