Fathers Day Celebrations With Food, Outdoor And Indoor Activities
By Jane Kliperrs
Unlike other holidays, Fathers Day celebrations are very much
a personal, private affair. There are no ticker tape parades,
city-wide outdoor festivals or standard meals. Therefore, it’s
up to you to really know your father’s likes and dislikes, and
his interests and his passions, if you want to plan the perfect
day.
It’s much easier to buy a Father Day card or a tie, but what
every human being appreciates, deep down, is a little bit of thoughtfulness,
quality time and consideration. Here are some ideas to help you
plan the best Father’s Day yet!
As with any holiday, food tends to be the focal point of any
Father’s Day celebration. One of the most desired activities on
Father’s Day is to go out for a special brunch or dinner.
Book Ahead For A Reservation At A Favorite Restaurant
Consider what your father’s favorite foods or restaurants are
and be sure to make an advance reservation, as the limited spots
may very well fill up! Another idea is to make it more casual
-- particularly if it’s going to be a nice day -- and take a picnic
at a state park.
You may want to serve up submarine sandwiches and chips, a cheese/fruit
spread, or grill up hotdogs and chicken with watermelon slices.
Some people stay home and barbecue for their dads for a change,
which is ideal if your father spends a lot of his time running
around at work.
Kids Can Bake A Special Cake And Make Pancakes For Breakfast
There are a number of websites offering special Father’s Day
recipes if you’d like to stay in. If the kids are young, they
can help bake a special Father’s Day cake or whip up some pancakes
for breakfast.
Many Fathers Day celebrations take place outdoors. The whole
family might enjoy a pleasant bike ride, with a pre-planned route
mapped out ahead of time. You may even find a place to grab something
to eat or relax along the way. Scenic hikes through the mountains,
around a lake or through a forested park are all great ways to
get outside and enjoy the nice day.
A Great Day With Outdoor And Indoor Activities
You can review your options and partake in a number of great
outdoor games like basketball, Frisbee, mini-golf or baseball
outdoors as well. Many dads like to fish and canoe, which are
other fun activities. You may even wind up catching yourself some
dinner! Don’t forget to bring your camera on your Father’s
Day activities to capture all the special memories.
There are also many Fathers Day celebrations you can do right
at home. Perhaps you’ll spend some time reading or watching a
movie together. If a sports game is on, you can cheer for your
favorite team over snacks. You can buy a couple of age-appropriate
board games or learn new card games.
It can also be fun to play old-school games like tag, hide-and-go-seek
and kick-ball. If you’re a pro at Rock Band, Wii Bowling or another
video game, it can be really fun to teach your father some high-tech
skills. Remember, the best Father’s Day message you can give is
that you’re available to spend time together and you care!

Did You Know?
Is Father’s Day a paid national holiday?
In the United States Father’s Day is not
a paid national holiday. It is officially recognized and there
are lots of events that happen that day for fathers. But it is
not considered a bank holiday.
In other parts of the world it is not usually
a paid holiday either. But just because it is not an official
bank holiday or a day that most people are given off as a holiday,
does not mean it is not a special day that needs celebration.
