Curry Spices Help To Create Delicious Meals

By Sanjay R M Gupta

Curry spices are essential ingredients in most Indian recipes. You may try out many of the delicious meals in Indian restaurants around town and then request a copy of the recipe and hope to replicate the same meal at home. Depending on your cooking skills, you may be able to follow the recipe successfully, or you may need to experiment to find out the ideal amount of curry spices in your meals.

It may be that you only need a subtle amount to add that taste to your meal, to make the meal memorable. If you are used to eating curry, you may find you are increasing the amount of curry every time you cook. But if you are having a dinner party, you may need to hold back the amount of curry spices when cooking meals for guests.

Especially when some of your guests were not expecting plenty of curry in their meals. You may offer an alternative meal for some of your guests who may have a sensitivity to spicy food. The majority of your guests will most likely enjoy the taste of a meal with relatively low amounts of curry spices.

Herbs And Spices Increase the Taste In Your Meals

Have you ever been completely blown away by something you ate at a restaurant, and wanted to know what gave it that taste? Sometimes, the answer is surprisingly simple. A lot of people spend a lot of time learning the basics of cooking, but never really master spices and seasonings. In my opinion, this is a shame. Herbs and spices can make a huge difference when you are cooking, and they are quite easy to use.

If I remember correctly, my fascination with spices started out the first time I tried Indian food. I was raised in a small New England town, and there was very little Indian cuisine to be had. The first time I had curry spices, they completely blew me away. I think it was garam masala curry, but at the time I had never had anything like it.

The Heat In The Curry Spice

Of course, the heat in the curry spice had an immediate reaction on me. I thought something was wrong with me – I had never had something so spicy before, and was unprepared for the feeling. But once I got over that, it was the flavor of the curry spices that truly impressed me. They were amazing!

The cook was kind enough to tell me about curry spices, and point my way to an Indian grocery store. I immediately picked up some curry spice of my own, and set off to experiment. When I first got it, I was putting it on anything and everything. I had never had anything like curry spices before, and I was determined to experiment with the flavor as much as possible.

Hot And Spicy Food

I didn’t use a lot of subtlety in my cooking either, and my wife – normally a big fan of anything that I put together on the stove – soon remarked on it. She was sick of eating food that was so hot and spicy that she could barely get it down!

After a while though, my tastes matured. I knew that using as much spice and curry on the food as possible wasn’t the ideal cooking method, and I developed a more nuanced approach to cuisine. Soon, I was using the curry spices moderately – conservatively even.

Not only did they add flavor to my food, but they also inspired me to do more investigation. I wanted to learn more about all the wonderful spices there are, and how to use them in cooking. I was able to improve my cooking tremendously with just a few simple ingredients.

Ideas From Indian Restaurants And Old Indian Recipes

I even visited a few Indian restaurants, to get a few ideas from the great Indian chefs around town. I got ideas from friends and relatives who could help me to get some of the traditional Indian recipes, to cook with curry spices the Indian way.

When I was growing up, I did not take cooking seriously, as I did not watch to learn how food was prepared. When I moved to college I had to cook for myself and I just ate all the usual dull food you get from mundane recipes.

It was only when I started experimenting with curry spices, that I realised there was a whole world of cooking that needed to be explored. Now that I am using Indian recipes, I can now taste the curry and learn how it has been cooked through the centuries.

I am now a frequent visitor to the finer Indian restaurants and often ask for the recipe, after I have enjoyed a delicious meal with curry spices.

What are the kitchen basics I need?
Kitchen basics that every kitchen should have are pots and pans (in a variety of sizes), measuring cups, measuring spoons, mixing bowls and an assortment of kitchen gadgets that make life easier.

One of these gadgets is a can opener. Being forced to saw off the bottom of a can could take a little of the fervor away from cooking. Also consider keeping whisks, spatulas and tongs as part of your cooking basics.

Another item basic that is used often is a drainer/strainer. These can come in the form of bowls or be part of a boiling pan set. It is used to drain spaghetti water from the pasta or can be used for anything similar.
