Finding The Best Cooking Recipes
By Frank Russelton
Cooking recipes outside your comfort zone is not meant to make
you panic. Take a deep breath and turn on the television. There
are several great television shows devoted entirely to cooking.
Wait, there is an entire network devoted to showing you how to
cook just about any dish that can be conceived. The key to cooking
is to start out with simpler dishes and go up from there. The
trick to turning the key is to know a few tips before beginning.
Healthy cooking has become the mantra of today’s health conscious
society. Everywhere we turn there are ads telling us "No
trans fats" or "zero calories" not to mention the
hype surrounding carbohydrate-free meals.

The secret to cooking recipes low in fat and healthy for us is
to use the outer aisle. No, the outer aisle is not some weird
third dimension. In a grocery store the outer aisles are where
you can find vegetables, meats, dairy, eggs and breads. Most layouts
follow this floor plan.
Low Carb Recipes
Low carb recipes are very simple to prepare once you have the
necessary ingredients. Avoid carbohydrates that are not filling.
When making a choice between white flour and whole wheat, choose
the whole wheat.
It is more filling and has the essential nutrients you need without
the abundance of carbohydrates. Cooking recipes that utilize fresh
vegetables and lean meats are a great way to avoid too many carbohydrates.
Look For The Salad Bar
If you are a vegetarian, look to the salad bar at your local
grocery store. Many people find themselves lacking the time to
cut and chop vegetables. The salad bar takes the work out of whipping
up a quick stir-fry dish.
The vegetables are already cut, washed and ready to eat. For
protein consider adding tofu or chickpeas. A vegetarian meal does
not have to be bland. There are many free recipes on the internet
for vegetarian meals.
30 Minute Meals
We are a world on the go. Between work, play and family our free
time is whittled down considerably. Perhaps that is why cooking
recipes that help us prepare 30 minute meals have become so popular
in cooking circles.
The meals are healthy and simple yet are abundant in flavor.
They do not require a lot of work and can be elegant enough to
serve guests. We can thank Food Network’s Rachel Ray for this
rise in popularity.
Learn From Your Mistakes
Accidents happen and food gets burnt. The important thing is
that you tried and will hopefully learn from your mistake. Cooking
recipes that you love is a life long passion that begins early
in life and continues with us as we grow and change.
Yesterday’s burnt toast is tomorrow’s croutons. Have fun, enjoy
yourself and skill will come with time and practice.

Did You Know?
Are there certain ingredients that I should always keep on hand?
The standard staples of the kitchen vary according to what the chef cooks. The basic staples are; flour, sugar, salt, pepper, butter (or margarine), oil, eggs and milk.
The more experienced chef might keep a wider variety of spices
and ingredients on hand at all times. If you are a beginner, buy
what you need as you come across recipes. This will save you time
and money.
