Christmas Gift For The Office Made To Please All Sensitivities
By Katerina Octanova
Christmas gift for the office may include the most popular item,
food. Most people like to eat and drink food, but you need to
take into account any allergies and sensitivities your colleagues
may have, by including alternatives to satisfy different needs.
If you know some of your colleagues are allergic to chocolate
or wine, then provide alternative sugarless candy and drinks without
alcohol, so that you can cater to the different needs and requirements
of your office colleagues.
An office is a cosmopolitan environment these days. There are
people with different religions, food allergies and cultural sensitivities.
For example, you may not supply a Christmas food gift full of
ham and pork to your Jewish colleagues. This gift may not even
be accepted as a gift but may be construed as an insult.
So, when you arrange for a Christmas gift for the office, always
take into account the sensitivities of your office colleagues.
Coming Up With The Right Christmas Gift For The Office
Picking out a Christmas gift for the office used to be pretty
easy to do. There are certain standard Christmas gift ideas for
the office that would always work. You could always get someone
a bottle of wine, some nice gourmet coffee, or an ornamental keepsake
from your vacation. Nowadays, however, everything is changed.
Coming up with the right Christmas gift idea for the office can
be quite a chore. The bottle of wine you wanted to get as a Christmas
gift for the office? That won’t fly anymore in many modern offices.
You might have recovering alcoholics, people who are allergic
to wine, and even folks who don’t drink for religious reasons.
That fancy coffee that you wanted together as a present for your
secretary? Better make sure that she doesn’t have heart palpitations
or some other problem.
Finding Out The Favourite Gift Of Your Office Colleagues
If you work in a small office, of course, you can always check
these things. You can ask the people around you if they have any
food issues that you should be aware of. Although this will give
them some clue as to what you are getting them, it won’t totally
cue them in.
Nonetheless, sometimes it is nice to be able to get everyone
the same thing -- particularly if you work in a bigger office.
You don’t want to show favoritism, after all, and you never know
when someone will be unhappy with the present that they got.
Christmas Gift Baskets
That is why gift baskets make so much more sense for Christmas
gifts for the office. Although occasionally you might give a gift
basket to someone who is allergic to chocolate or does not like
the summer sausage that comes with the gift, there will always
be at least something there that they like. It certainly beats
the embarrassment of inadvertently giving a bottle of wine to
a recovering alcoholic.
Another thing that I really like about baskets as a Christmas
gift for the office is that they are so well put together. They
have the allure of good promotional items. Although there isn’t
always that much to them, every element complements everything
else, resulting in a gift that is sure to bring happiness to recipient.
Of course, you can always give out Christmas mugs, crystal vases,
or glass blown ornaments as well. Just so long as you are sure
that you get a gift that won’t offend anyone. After all, if your
Christmas gift for the office might result in bad feelings, you
are better off not giving it at all.
Avoid Disappointing Your Office Colleagues
But it may be a severe embarrassment, if you receive a Christmas
gift from your office colleagues and you gave them nothing. To
avoid disappointing your colleagues, you should find out their
favourite food, during the year leading to Christmas, taking into
account any allergies.
For example, most people like chocolate, but if there are any
colleagues with an allergy to chocolate or high sugar content,
then you can buy sugarless candy as an alternative for those with
these food allergies.
You can discretely ask your colleagues if they have any food
allergies, without telling them you are looking to get a Christmas
food gift and then when the time comes, you can give a Christmas
hamper with alternative foods included, to be shared by all your
office colleagues.
If you take into account all their favorite food choices and
any allergies, then you will have a group of happy colleagues
satisfied with your Christmas gift for the office.

Did You Know?
What are the kitchen basics I need?
Kitchen basics that every kitchen should have are
pots and pans (in a variety of sizes), measuring cups, measuring spoons,
mixing bowls and an assortment of kitchen gadgets that make life easier.
One of these gadgets is a can opener. Being forced to saw off
the bottom of a can could take a little of the fervor away from
cooking. Also consider keeping whisks, spatulas and tongs as part
of your cooking basics.
Another item basic that is used often is a drainer/strainer.
These can come in the form of bowls or be part of a boiling pan
set. It is used to drain spaghetti water from the pasta or can
be used for anything similar.
