Chocolates For Everyone

By Patricia Gorginas

For the vast majority of people today, when you mention chocolates, they think of some wonderful treat that they more than likely would have to give up if they were on a diet. Yet there was a time when chocolate was considered to be more than just a decadent indulgence.

It was actually revered as "food of the gods," with healing properties. In several of the primitive cultures found in South and Central America during earlier eras, chocolates were reserved for special purposes and for the most elect members of the society.

Fortunately, things are quite different today and anyone can buy chocolate products. They are enjoyed by a wide range of people, from rich to poor, from all walks of life and in just about every civilized country around the globe.

Love The Opportunity To Indulge In Chocolate Treats

Although there are some countries where various types of chocolate sweets are not as common, it is true that almost everyone knows and loves the opportunity to indulge in a chocolate bar, some chocolate chip cookies, a chocolate cake or some decadently rich chocolate truffles.

Regardless of whether your preferences lean toward white chocolate, milk chocolate, or rich, dark chocolate, or whether you like your chocolate mixed up with other yummy ingredients, or you prefer it pure and plain, you will discover a huge choice of chocolates that are sure to please, delight and fulfill your cravings. In addition, the advent of the internet has made it even easier for chocoholics to find a vast selection and variety of goodies to choose from.

Your Favourite Chocolates Online And In Specialty Shops

These days, a person can hop online and in moments find specialty chocolate shops. At the same time, for those who are adventurous and who don't have a narrow definition of the perfect chocolate delight for them, they can meander through numerous websites that feature all kinds of gourmet chocolate wonders from inventive and avant-garde chocolatiers who are bringing fresh and novel chocolate concoctions to the marketplace.

As a result, no matter where you may be, you can buy Belgian chocolates directly from some of the world masters in the art of traditional gourmet chocolate making. Or you can purchase chocolate truffles from a tiny and obscure chocolatier who has dreamt up some amazing, or even alarming combination of ingredients that push the boundaries.

Chocolates In Gift Boxes

At the same time, you can go online to purchase chocolates in specialty designs or gourmet gift boxes that are perfect for giving at Christmas, Valentine's Day, birthdays, as Mothers Day gifts, or for any other special occasion. Since most everyone loves to receive gifts, you can hardly go wrong when you decide to present someone with a carefully chosen and specially prepared box of chocolates.

The biggest restriction that comes into play when buying chocolates over the internet is the temperature. Many of the top gourmet chocolatiers will only offer to ship their chocolate concoctions from fall to spring when it is cooler. Others will offer overnight shipping during the summer months and will put their delicacies in special, insulated shipping boxes, but this option adds quite of bit of additional expense.

However, for Christmas gift giving, at least in the northern hemisphere, chocolate gifts can be shipped without any problems whatsoever.

Did You Know?

Is dark chocolate better for you than white chocolate?
When comparing dark and white chocolate you are actually referring to an absence of an important ingredient. Dark chocolates have the cocoa liquor added to the mixture. White chocolates do not have this ingredient.

The white chocolates only have the cocoa butter. Both still have sugar and vanilla but that is where the similarities end. Many chocolatiers have petitioned to have white chocolates labeled as something else because they do not have the liquor that makes them chocolates. In terms of health related benefits the dark chocolates definitely have a winning edge.

The darker the chocolates are, the more antioxidants they contain that can combat free radicals. You also may not know that research into the effects of flavonoids that are found in dark chocolates have lead researchers to believe that chocolates can be more effective than codeine when it comes to coughs.

Chocolates have also been used as aphrodisiacs. There is not a lot of concrete evidence that they work but they do produce serotonin which can give you a "feel good" sensation.
