Can Opener Is A Convenient Tool

By Patrick D Kelly

Can opener is a handy tool to have in the kitchen. You can use a can opener to open a variety of cans containing ingredients to use in your meals. If you do not have time to prepare a quick meal, then you can open a can of soup with a can opener. The soup is often more nutritious than the fatty foods sold at fast food outlets.

I had to recently decide if I wanted to buy a new manual can opener or an electric can opener. I think that an electric can opener would be the easiest to use, but I have heard horror stories about the bacteria and dirt that can build up on it, and that there is no easy way to clean it.

I have a few hand-operated models, but I can’t seem to find one that works well. Short of not eating canned foods at all, I really don’t know what to do.

Dust Mites And Other Micro Critters

My grandmother and my mother always used an electric can opener, and I never got sick from either one. Perhaps, I am just paranoid and I should stop reading things that I find about what can go wrong with a simple can opener.

I also should stop watching shows about dust mites and all of the micro critters that may or may not be infesting my home. Ok, so I know they are there, but that doesn’t mean that I want to think about it.

Electric Can Opener

I think I might review my options and buy an electric can opener. I will just have to make sure I do my best to keep the blade as clean as I can, and to make sure that I wipe off the top of the cans before I open them.

Because I have very little space in my kitchen I will probably get one that can be mounted under my kitchen cupboards. That way I can use it without fussing around with plugging it in and finding a place to store the thing when it is not in use.

New Design of Can Opener With Better Safety Features

There is a new kind of can opener out there, and I see that it claims it will not leave a sharp edge on the lid once you are done.

It slips on the top of the can, and then moves around by itself. If there is a metal can and a blade opening it, wouldn’t it stand to reason there is a sharp edge somewhere, even if it’s not in the same place?

Tomato Paste In A Can

Though I think it’s a nifty idea for a can opener, I don’t see how it is any better than the ones I can get locally for half of the money. You’d think this would be simpler.

The electric can opener has allowed me to quickly open my can of tomato paste that I like to use on my soups and pastas. I don’t like the sauce you get in a hot bottle as they seem to lack taste and the brand I like only comes in a can.

Restricted For Time

If I have time, I like to make my own sauce, but these days of time restrictions you do not always have the luxury to make your own sauce, so I get the ready made sauce using my can opener.

I still keep a couple of hand operated can openers in the kitchen with my kitchen tools, just in case the electric can opener malfunctions.

But it seems to be working well for a couple of months now.

Did You Know?

Thanksgiving is that time of year when families and friends gather together to celebrate and give thanks for a year of life. It is a celebration that has some very deep roots and though many people commonly think the United States has the copyright on Thanksgiving, that is not the case.

There are so many traditions associated with this holiday. Some automatically think of the Pilgrims and the first fall they held when they came to America. But Thanksgiving traditions can be extremely wide and varied.

You do not have to stick with the same old turkey and stuffing recipes that have been in your family for decades. You can shake things up a bit and start your own tradition.
