Caffeine In Coffee

By Jennifer Bowers

Coffee is a popular beverage, with a number of gourmet varieties available these days. However, coffee contains caffeine, and too much caffeine can have a negative impact on your health. There is the option of decaffeinated coffee for those who like their coffee without caffeine.

On your way to work, you can see coffee shops open all morning, selling workers their one or two cups of coffee, to get that feeling of more energy and alertness. But, drinking too much caffeine, could make you feel a decrease in energy by the middle of the day.

Many people can drink two to four cups of coffee a day (which is about 200 to 300 mg) without any problems. The effect of caffeine is to stimulate the central nervous system, getting rid of fatigue, but after the drug has run its course, it may be that you begin to feel weak and irritable by early afternoon.

The Consequences Of Drinking Too Much Coffee

This is usually the time your body has finished or nearly finished digesting the food and drink from your breakfast. Drinking more than four cups of coffee per day, means you are getting too much caffeine in your system. You can work around this by reducing your number of cups of coffee to one cup in the morning and one cup in the afternoon.

Too much caffeine can result in feelings of extreme fatigue, nervousness and trouble falling asleep. Some people have gastrointestinal problems including nausea and difficulty digesting food.

Headaches, Stomach And Skin Problems

Coffee has a significant amount of acid in it and may damage the stomach lining for some people, and cause dry skin. Headaches can also be a problem. Some people eating chocolate on a daily basis also suffer headaches.

This is mainly a result of not having sufficient moisture in the body, and the nervous system is affected by this lack of balance. Some coffee drinkers also suffer more anxiety than usual when they drink coffee in large quantities, or when they try to reduce the amount of coffee they drink.

A better way is to review your options and reduce the amount of caffeine by alternating with a cup of green tea. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants, which is perfect for your skin and internal organs, and does not have as much caffeine as coffee. To maintain your moisture balance, you should drink plenty of water during the day.
