Broiler Pan To Cook A Quick Nutritious Meal
By Ginger O’Riley
Broiler pan can be used to cook quick nutritious meals. You may
want some pancakes or French toast for your morning breakfast,
or cook small pieces of meat for your dinner.
Rather than spending long hours cooking large pieces of meat
in a large stove, heating up the whole house in the peak of summer,
you can use the broiler pan to cook small pieces of meat to feed
your family.
The smaller pieces always cook a lot quicker. You can go to the
meat section of your favourite gourmet or food store and you can
buy ready cut pieces of beef, lamb or unskinned chicken pieces.
You can even buy bagged, washed, ready cut vegetables to further
cut down your preparation time in the kitchen.
Now, you have the fresh ingredients of a quick nutritious meal
to feed your family.
Home Cooking
Home cooking is not the same kind of meal preparation that was
done by our mom’s. I grew up with the images of June Cleaver spending
the majority of her day in the kitchen preparing slow cooked meals
for her family.
The family would then spend time eating the meal in the formal
dining room at a leisurely pace. That was a different era with
a different set of values and life styles. Today the need and
want for convenience and speed with our food preparation is the
name of the game.

Spending Hours In The Kitchen
I would like to spend hours in the kitchen preparing the meals
for my family, but the number of hours that I am away from home
at my job does not allow this luxury. I do feel it is very important
to eat a meal together each day.
My children are involved in many activities but we all try to
make an effort to avoid making plans over the dinner hour. My
husband’s job is set hours with few exceptions so we mainly need
to work around the children’s schedule. I try to plan quick meals
that are nutritious and tasty. One item that I use often to accomplish
this is my broiler pan.
Faster Meal Preparation With A Broiler Pan
We do not have a stove top grill. Our outdoor grill is used often,
but it is not always convenient due to our winter weather patterns.
Two years ago I invested in a high quality broiler pan, and my
meal preparations became much faster.
I mentioned it was a high quality pan. Most people have the broiler
pan that comes with their ovens. However, this is usually a flimsy
hard to clean piece of equipment. The broiler pan that I have
has three pieces. The bottom piece is heavy stainless steel that
is two and a half inches deep.
Making Pancakes And French Toast
There is a grill rack that fits inside that allows the fats from
broiled steaks, chicken and other meats to run down into the pan.
The third piece is a nonstick griddle surface that can be used
in the oven or on the stove top across two burners. This piece
can be used with the broiler pan or by its self. It is very convenient
for making pancakes, French toast or eggs. The nonstick surface
makes clean up go very fast.
One of my family’s favorite meals is pancakes or French toast,
sausage and fresh fruit. This is a nutritional, fast cooking meal.
My son tells me that he loves eating breakfast at night.
When you are looking for fast meal ideas remember that eggs are
a nutritional and fast ingredient that most people enjoy eating.
Cooking A Meal After A Long Day At Work
You may have spent a long day at work, when you arrive home you
do not want to spend another two hours working in the kitchen.
You can use your broiler pan to cook small pieces of meat you
can buy from the meat section of your favourite food store. The
smaller the pieces will cook a lot quicker in the broiler pan.
All you need now is to cut your cabbage or lettuce and a few
spring onions to make a delicious salad. Adding a little vinegar,
increases the taste and keeps the calories down. I avoid salad
dressings as they usually carry too many calories.
It is easy to create a quick nutritious meal to keep the family
happy, thanks to the use of the broiler pan.

Did You Know?
What are the kitchen basics I need?
Kitchen basics that every kitchen should have are
pots and pans (in a variety of sizes), measuring cups, measuring spoons,
mixing bowls and an assortment of kitchen gadgets that make life easier.
One of these gadgets is a can opener. Being forced to saw off
the bottom of a can could take a little of the fervor away from
cooking. Also consider keeping whisks, spatulas and tongs as part
of your cooking basics.
Another item basic that is used often is a drainer/strainer.
These can come in the form of bowls or be part of a boiling pan
set. It is used to drain spaghetti water from the pasta or can
be used for anything similar.
