American Beer Has Many Varieties

By Barry J Smallhorn

If you were to walk into a neighborhood bar and ask each person what their favorite type of beer is, you would probably get many answers. Every beer drinker has a certain beer that they prefer over the rest, yet perhaps they have never tried different types of lagers, pilsners, or stouts.

It may also be that they prefer a certain country’s brewing system. If you have spurned American beer choices because you did not think they offered much selection, then you would be mistaken. American beers are diverse, complex and can be just as satisfying as German or Belgian beer.

Many Different Types Of American Beers

Beer aristocrats and snobs would like you to believe that American beer is tasteless, watered down and common. The fact is that they are wrong. There are many different types of American brewed beers on the market today that can hold their own against award winning brewing companies found in foreign countries. The key is just sampling what is out there and then making your own informed decision.

Let’s take for example Bud Light. For some it is an iconic beer that is the "King of Beers," yet for others they do not like the taste and simply prefer a more complex beer that contains additional notes of flavor. The bottom line is that the brewing system used for Bud Light is the same brewing system used for imported beers.

Variations On Ingredients Of Beer

It comes down to a matter of taste and what flavors you prefer. Do you like your beer to contain more hops? Do you prefer barley over rice? Different brews follows the same directions but vary on the ingredients and it is this factor that challenges a person’s taste buds.

Before you make up your mind and are determined to stay with one nation’s brew, give some other beers a chance. Sure, they may not be a domestic product but that does not make them the automatic best where you are concerned. Beer should be enjoyed not debated over. It is one of the most popular drinks in the entire world and has a rich history dating back to the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians.

Expanding Your Palate By Sampling Different Beers

If you are a beer drinker, then you have to keep an open mind about what it is you are drinking. Only by sampling different types of beers made from different companies and brewed in different countries can you expand your palate exponentially. An American beer is just one example of a country that brews beer.

You need to experiment with the different varieties offered by American brewing companies and compare those varieties to beers from around the world. You may actually come out with a new favorite when all is said and done.
